|| First 24 Hours ||
Well we made it through the first 24 hours home. It has been a blur if Im being honest. Lots of movies, shows, cold liquids & snuggles. Lots of whining and irritability, which is to be expected. His mouth seems to be swollen and his tongue very swollen.
The afternoon on Friday (which was surgery day) he didnt eat much. He had those Noka pouches which he has been loving, some freezies, juice, lots of chocolate milk, and cottage cheese. To my surprise he didnt ask for ice cream until Saturday for lunch!
Friday night was horrible for sleep. He didnt fall asleep until after 9pm and we did give him alittle bit of the pain medicine they gave us. We have also been alternating between Tylenol & motrin every 2-3 hours. But the first night he seemed to be up every 2 hours, he would wake up whining and then fall back to sleep. He was snoring like crazy and only wanted to breathe out of his mouth. He also got hot and we had to move to our guest room in the basement which is the coolest room.
I did a lot of second guessing myself Friday night as I tried to sleep next to him. Was this the right decision? Will he start to breathe better? Use his mouth more? Will the swelling go down? So many thoughts and emotions were going through my head that first night.
Saturday was our first FULL day at home. He seemed to be better than friday if we could stay home top of the medicine every 2 hours. He was eating a little more, but still was irritable at times, probably because he was hungry for real food and tired from not sleeping good. But he did do some playing today (day 2), we went on a walk and he drove his motorized jeep since the nurse said no biking for 7 days! (Like that will happen!) And then he played in the sandbox for awhile in the morning. He did poop today too which Im glad because of all the dairy and lack of water! For lunch he had ice cream and then I did have to give him some melotinin for nap because he was so tired that he couldnt relax. And then he slept for a good 2 hours. He seemed to wake up in a better mood for the rest of the evening until it was bedtime.
We probably kept him up too late on tonight (day 2) but we wanted to give him his last dose of medicine before bed which was at 9pm. He was tired and didnt really want to do anything we asked. But he was out after one story. Also, today his breath has been HORRIBLE! Which the nurses said is normal because of the dead skin and scabs in his throat! Beware of that! lol Praying for a better night tonight! I’ll keep you posted!
